Dear Readers,
It is my pleasure to introduce the second issue of the Journal „Wiedza Medyczna” prepared by the team from the School of Public Health, Centre of Postgraduate Medical Education (CMKP). With this issue we would like to contribute to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of CMKP.
The volume consists of ten articles presenting selected issues related to health system in Poland, including history, ethics, law, jurisprudence and selected patient populations.
The opening article presents a 50-year-old history of School of Public Health and its directors – a perspective that could also reflect the history of transformation of public health in Poland. The next two articles are devoted to current ethical issues in Polish health care, addressing in particular the problem of alternative medicine. A series of three articles focuses on legal problems in medicine in Poland. They cover legal liability of medical professionals (labour, professional, civil, criminal) and present an outline of legal challenges accompanied by their solution proposals. These articles are complemented with yet another one on medical jurisprudence practices in Poland. The volume includes also two articles on the provision of health care to the elderly - one of the major current challenge for health system. The closing article refers to one of the most common health problems in Poland discussing situation of patients with diabetes.
