Vol 2 No 1 (2020)
Issue Description

Dear Colleagues,
Dear Readers,

The current issue of the “Wiedza Medyczna”, which I have the pleasure to present, was written by the employees of the School of Public Health CMKP.

It consists of number of articles concerning a wide spectrum of public health problems. The topics of the presented articles are related to legal issues of   medical practice, health problems of elderly individuals with cancer, and  so-called medical tourism that is met by a large group of practitioners.

An important problem related to the public health is the optimization of health care costs. The number of patients suffering from mental health disorders  is growing rapidly. Consequently,  it is  not only  medical but also an economical  problem. Therefore, a paper concerning  the costs of work absence of  patients with mental illness is presented.

Finally, I would like to encourage you to read the publication on the role of the University of the Third Age of prof. Halina Szwarc in the activation  of the elderly people. The University of the Third Age operating at CMKP is the oldest institution of this type in Poland and in 2020 it celebrates the 45th anniversary.

I am convinced that the articles presented will encourage readers to be interested in the public health problems, and publications in this field will be constantly presented  in the “Wiedza Medyczna” .

On behalf of the Editorial Team and the Scientific Council of "Wiedza Medyczna”

Wojciech Bik
