Abstract

This article comprehensively analyzes the phenomenon of disinformation surrounding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), identifying key sources of false narratives (e.g., social media, anti-vaccine movements), the most common types of myths (e.g., links between vaccines and autism), and their impact on neurodivergent individuals and public health policy. The paper also presents recommendations for countering disinformation, as proposed by participants of a debate held during the conference “Autism Spectrum Disorder – Facts and Myths.” Experts’ suggestions include broad education, engagement of scientists, and involvement of public institutions.
